Abstract

Despite the introduction of the National Policy for Comprehensive Men's Health Care (PNAISH, acronym in Portuguese), men’s health care remains a challenge in Brazil. This article discusses men's experiences of using health services in Florianópolis (SC) and doctor-male patient relationships. We conducted a qualitative study using methodological triangulation (semi-structured interviews and focus groups) in two family health centers. The findings reveal that divided doctor attention and high professional turnover have a negative impact on the formation of bonds. The results also highlight the benefits of approaches that extend beyond technical precision and the importance of strategies such as providing spaces for sharing experiences and listening. This study contributes to understanding the implementation of PNAISH in primary health care settings and underlines the challenges facing men's health care in Brazil.
