Abstract

Objective: To describe the perception of the nursing team about work accidents with sharps in an Intensive Care Unit of a public hospital in the city of São Luís / Maranhão. Methods: For the collection was through interview with questions about: work accidents; handling of sharps, risk perception; use of personal protection equipment personal and professional expectation because of the accident; health risk coping training; immunization actions; notification of the health problem and educational actions. Results: The results showed that the accidents that occur due to exposure to scratches with needles and blades are the most manipulated materials, due to the work activities in an intensive care unit. Conclusion: The interviewees reported the importance of continuing education actions aimed at qualifying in service and improvement of care practice.
