Abstract
In this study, in situ AFM in lateral force mode was used to directly image topographical features. It was suggested that such features are the apex of the individual PEG chains extending into the aqueous environment from the surface. The data were consistent with models proposed for the structure of such films and the mechanisms by which they resist protein interactions.
