In this study, we tried to bond the melt-spun Zr55Al 10Ni5Cu30 metallic glassy thin ribbons with the porous metallic substrates by the hot-pressing procedure. As a result, the bonding strength increases with increasing load on the sample during the hot-pressing and also with decreasing pore size of the substrates. This is because both the high pressure and the small pore size can result that the supercooled liquid of the glassy alloy can penetrate down along the pores deeply during the hot-pressing, leading to good anchoring effect. Tensile test results and cross-sectional views of the pressed samples are shown in detail. © 2007 The Japan Institute of Metals.
