Objective: to present women's perceptions regarding paternal participation in groups for pregnant women. Method: exploratory, descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data collection took place in 2018, through semi-structured interviews in a primary health care unit, with women who participated in groups of pregnant women in that unit and who had the presence of a partner / husband / father in at least one of those meetings. For data analysis, the thematic analysis technique was used. Results: five women participated in the study, whose data were grouped into five categories, the group of pregnant women: power for care; presence of the companion as emotional support; the care of the partner during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium; construction of motherhood versus paternity; co-responsibility, gender and roles in society. Conclusion: through the knowledge acquired in the groups, women identified that their partners / husbands / parents felt more prepared for the moment of childbirth and the puerperium, contributing to the active participation of the father figure, consequently improving their maternal experience.
