Abstract

where k+ and k- are the on and off rate constants for the uptake and release of a single BS molecule. Li,N is the number of lipid molecules in the patch and BSC is the number of BS molecules in the canalicular space per membrane unit. The parameter η is a solubility index that represents the number of lipid molecules that are required to accommodate one BS molecule. The larger η, the smaller is the membrane solubility of a BS.
