Influence of ferronickel slag powder on the performance of high-strength-mortar (setting time and compressive strength)

Abstract

Current research in mortar issue is aligned with an attempt to find various alternatives in building materials. Additional materials such as nickel slag, silica fume, and chemical additive are used in this research. This study aims to determine the effect of nickel slag substitution of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% to get the highest compressive strength on mortar and to determine the effect of steam curing treatment with a temperature of 75 °C for 12 hours. Compressive strength testing is carried out at 3, 7, and 28 days. The specimens used were cylindrical (5.5 cm in diameter and 10 cm high) of 90 samples and consisted of 5 nickel slag substitution and each of 6 samples. From the results of the compressive strength test age of 3, 7 and 28 days using 75 °C steam temperature treatment for 12 hours increased the highest strength at 28 days with substitution of 0% of 89.16 MPa. Whereas the highest standard compressive strength treatment at 28 days with a 0% substitution of 84.06 MPa. The effect of nickel slag is relatively slow because at the age of 28 days, the substitution of 10% has just increased.
