Abstract

Key Points: For a variety of reasons, an increasing number of physicians are pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities. There are unlimited opportunities for entrepreneurs who can bring innovative solutions to meet the growing demand for better outcomes and more affordable healthcare choices in the US and globally. A critical skill for a would-be physician/entrepreneur is the ability to identify and assess opportunities. In order to be worth pursuing an opportunity must have an identified customer, a compelling value proposition, and a viable business model. One large surprise for many physicians/entrepreneurs is the fact that the single biggest factor between success and failure in a new venture is the people issues. First-time entrepreneurs are well served to work with a trusted mentor.
