Abstract
Introduction: Athletic performance in team sports is a multifactorial phenomenon shaped by the integration of physical capabilities, physiological efficiency, and psychological readiness. As the demands of competitive sports continue to rise, there is an increasing need to evaluate athletes beyond mere technical skills or fitness levels. Instead, a more holistic approach is required-one that considers how psychological resilience, physiological markers, and physical traits collectively contribute to optimal performance. Athletes must make rapid decisions, maintain high energy output, and remain mentally focused under pressure. This paper explores the significance of developing comprehensive athlete profiles that encompass key psychological, physiological, and physical variables, thereby supporting more informed decisions in training, talent identification, and performance enhancement. Methodology: This study adopts a qualitative review approach to synthesize existing research findings relevant to athlete profiling in team sports. Eleven variables were identified for analysis based on their prominence in performance-related literature. The psychological variables include sports competition anxiety, achievement motivation, aggression, and self-concept. Physiological parameters assessed are body mass index (BMI), resting heart rate, reaction time, and vital capacity. Physical performance indicators include speed, agility, and leg explosive power. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria required studies to be published between 1980 and 2024, written in English, with a focus on team sports and validated assessment tools Thematic coding was used to extract key findings, and the variables were analyzed for their individual and interactive effects on athletic performance. Conclusions: The analysis highlights the importance of integrating psychological, physiological, and physical assessments in building athlete profiles. Mental factors like anxiety, motivation, and aggression significantly influence decision-making and emotional control during competition. Physiological characteristics such as reaction time, vital capacity, and heart rate reflect the athlete's readiness and recovery ability, while physical metrics like agility, speed, and leg power directly affect game performance. Understanding the interplay of these components allows coaches, trainers, and sport psychologists to customize training plans, monitor progress effectively, and implement targeted interventions. A multidimensional profiling framework not only enhances individual performance but also contributes to overall team success. Advancements in technology and longitudinal tracking are recommended for refining these profiling systems in the future.
