Psychometric Properties of the Inventory of Attachment Patterns Perceived during Childhood

Abstract

The aim of this study was to construct the Inventory of Attachment Patterns Perceived during Childhood. The inventory is based on Bowlby's and Ainsworth's attachment theory and presents scales to measure avoidant, anxious, disorganized, and secure attachment styles. Method: content validity was assessed by means of item testing. A cross-sectional confirmatory analytic design was employed in each scale and concurrent validity was examined."Instruments: The study included the Attachment Patterns Perceived during Childhood and the Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) Inventory. Results: A valid and reliable inventory was obtained, with high content validity; confirmatory models with appropriate fit characteristics, and a significant correlation. The inventory is optimal for social use with the possibility of measuring progress in psychotherapy treatment.
