Use of TikTok as a learning tool in higher education

Abstract

The rise of new information and communication technologies and the widespread use of social media are generating a constant rethinking of teaching models in university institutions. This research pursues two objectives: first, to develop students’ ability to acquire concepts through the extensive reading of life stories and, second, to introduce students to the design and implementation of life stories and interviews as part of their socio-practical training. In this research, we chose to use interviews and life stories as pedagogical tools, interconnecting them through information and communication technologies and the social network known as TikTok. All of this is applied to the Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at the Pablo de Olavide University and the University of Malaga in Spain. The results obtained are expected to generate an in-depth debate on the pedagogical potential of narrative methods in combination with the use of information and communication technologies and social networks, as well as serve as a guide for Social Work teachers for the proper use of these technologies and social networks as active tools for education.
