Abstract

New cytological techniques for handling desmid chromosomes are described. Twenty new chromosome counts are recorded. Parallel disjunction of chromatids at anaphase has been observed for the first time in the desmids, and from this and other criteria it has been inferred that a non‐localized type of centromeric organization of the chromosomes is present.
