Abstract

The diffusional mass transport process in the electrolytic soln. flow induced by an electromagnetic force analyzed quant. in the electrolysis cell with a pair of parallel electrodes in a short channel. The streaming flow is of inviscid mode and the diffusion of ionic species causes the electromagnetic force generating the soln. stream. The diffusion process can thus be regulated by means of an external magnetic field. The diffusion current is proportional to the 4/3rd power of the concn. difference between the electrode surface and the bulk and the 1/3rd power of the imposed magnetic flux d. Exptl. results agreed well with theor. predictions. Possible application of this method to control diffusion processes is discussed.
