Abstract

Sedimentation stability is one of the property evaluation index of magnetorheological fluid (MR fluid). MR fluid with low sedimentation rate can ensure stability during processing. Based on analysis of the causes of sedimentation, two kinds of surfactants are selected for anti-sedimentation. Effects of stirring time and ball milling process on sedimentation stability of MR fluid are tested. The results indicate that the kind of surfactant has a significant influence on sedimentation. Prolonging the stirring time can improve the dispersion characteristics of iron. Optimum process on surfactant and stirring time are concluded.
