The two types of health sciences and other sciences in different fields interact with each other. Technology and medical science are developing very rapidly in the context of health services that have minimal standards. The operating patient scheduling system in the hospital is one of the health services that has complex problems. Efficiency in patient scheduling surgery is needed to prevent delays or cancellations of surgery. The purpose of this study was to solve the problem of scheduling surgery patients in a planning period with the Firefly Algorithm (FA) method approach. FA can support the scheduling process in computing efficiently according to the results of the solution as a scheduling candidate. FA can assign work received to existing resources such as doctors, nurses, operating theaters, as well as equipment used during surgery, so that work can be completed with minimum makespan time. The results of the implementation of the proposed algorithm can solve the problem of scheduling surgery patients in hospitals. This implementation produces a patient schedule that has a minimum makespan time in various conditions and can increase the utility of the operating room in the hospital by 50.6%.
