The objective was to determine the potential mitigation of the Urban Heat Island in a city sector of Mexicali (Baja California, México). The potential was determined through modeling the urban fabric; expressed in land use, land cover, and buildings as well as, the ability to implement mitigation strategies. The results show that under the current land use fabric and local climate change scenarios, the mitigation of temperature can be up to 8 °C., at 2080 year. Based on the results, we conclude that dynamic modeling is a useful and an applicable tool, in the urban planning process of adaptation to climate change.
