Abstract

A simple liquid medium for the cultivation of Leishmania parasites is described. Leishmania brasiliensis and Leishmania peruviana cultured in this medium reached cell densities greater than 107 promastigotes per ml within 7 days. This medium compares very favorably with the more complex media used to cultivate Leishmania spp. and other hemoflagellates.
