Abstract

This chapter describes the main issues related to the measurement and analysis of voltage events in power systems. Section 4.1 describes the definitions and the different magnitude and duration thresholds used in the main power-quality standards to distinguish between the different types of voltage events. Section 4.2 describes the performance of the standard method for detection and analysis of voltage events and other signal-processing methods used to overcome some of the drawbacks of the standard method. Section 4.3 details the main effects of voltage events on equipment and the use of voltage-tolerance curves to describe the performance equipment to voltage variations. Finally, Section 4.4 presents the results of several months of monitoring of the three-phase voltage supply in a low voltage distribution network and the effects of the voltage events detected on different equipment connected to this network.
