Abstract

Five cases are described in which fear of the possibly hazardous effects of giving amphotericin to patients with kidney disease resulted in death from progressive infection by an amphotericin-sensitive fungus (Cryptococcus neoformans in three cases, Blastomyces dermatitidis in one case, and Histoplasma capsulatum in one case). © 1973, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
