Abstract

This book is a literature-based review of works done on mechanisms of cationic polymerization with particular attention to initiation mechanisms. The discussion is presented under headings: introduction; fundamentals (monomers, initiators, anions, solvents); initiation by Broensted acids and iodine; initiation by Levis acids (cocatalysis and direct initiation); initiation by carbenium salts and related species; initiation by bare cations; electrochemical initiation; photoinitiation; initiation from a charge-transfer complex; initiation from a polymer (block copolymerization, grafting); miscellaneous initiators.
