Flavonoids and insecticidal activity against spodoptera frugiperda of Myrsine coriacea (Primulaceae)

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the insecticidal effects of Myrsine coriacea (Primulaceae) against one of the main pests of maize, the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), as well as performing the phytochemical study of M. coriacea. In the experiments for ingestion against S. frugiperda, the leaf extract of M. coriacea showed larval mortality of 46.67 %. From M. coriacea leaves were isolated the flavonoids catechin and quercetin. This is the first report of the isolation of flavonoids in M. coriacea.
