Prevalence of Chikungunya in India

Abstract

Being a tropical country with intense urbanization, poor sanitation, India is one of the leading victims of various vector borne diseases such as Malaria, Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis and Chikungunya. In this review, a year and state wise data on number cases of Chikungunya was discussed from 2018 to 2024 (till August) was analyzed.. The trend suggests an uptrend with slight decline in dip in 2020 due to diversion of attention to Covid-19 health emergency. In 2021, a steep increase in suspected cases of Chikungunya was reported. The cases increased by 2.7 times than in 2020. These numbers clearly show significant prevalence of Chikungunya infections in the country.
