Abstract

There have been a number of theoretical studies devoted to the notion of sublanguage. Some of them claim that the notion is important in processing natural language text, owing to lexical, syntactic, or semantic restrictions. A number of these studies have examined actual texts in order to verify the claim (Kittredge & Lehrberger 1982; Grishman & Kittredge 1986; Slocum 1986; Biber 1993).
