Abstract

Six diarylheptanoids, including three new compounds, were isolated from the rhizomes of Alpinia officinarum Hance (Zingiberaceae). The structures of the new compounds were determined to be 7-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-4-hepten-3-one (I), 5-methoxy-7-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-3-heptanone (II), and 5-methoxy-1,7-diphenyl-3-heptanone (III) on the basis of the spectroscopic data. This is the first time that compound IV, in which both phenyl rings are substituted, has been isolated from Alpinia spp. © 1985, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
