Abstract

The label graphic novel has been discussed by comicbook authors as well as by theorists, mainly from historical or formal approaches. In this article I propose an approach to the works published under this label in the Colombian context, a country that currently lives an unusual publishing growth, and that has found in the publication of graphic novels one of its most successful lines. I address this phenomenon from the perspective of Publishing studies (Darnton, Bhaskar), and from Gérard Genette theory of the paratextuality. Particularly, I focus on the appearance of this label in the peritextual and epitextual environments of the (Darnton), showig how the graphic novel label has expanded the production and consumption of comics in Colombia.
