Thermal modeling of friction welding

Abstract

Modeling of the friction welding process depends entirely on the accurate frictional heat generation term. In the present work it is demonstrated that the inverse heat conduction approach best represents the actual heat flow. Unlike other existing thermal models, this proposed model does not require the friction coefficient, the shear yield stress, nor the interface temperature data. © 2008 ISIJ.
