Abstract
The standard heat of combustion in F of a B carbide sample having the compn. B4.222C was detd. from the heats of combustion of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) and of B carbide-poly(tetrafluoroethylene) mixts. The energy of the combustion reaction was measured in an isothermal-jacket bomb calorimeter. The heat of formation of B carbide is -17.1 kcal./mole. By combining all probable errors, the overall exptl. uncertainty is 2.7 kcal./mol. The value for the heat of formation of B carbide is for the phase represented by the formula B4.222C. 35 references.
