In summary, many cases with AIVL have likely been overlooked in Japan. The possibility of AIVL should always be considered in middle-aged or elderly patients with hemophagocytic syndrome, especially in Asia. To improve the prognosis of the AIVL patients, the optimal strategy for treatment should urgently be established.
