Abstract

Purpose of reservoir simulation is to estimate future field performance under given operating conditions and well configurations. Because the tools for performing simulation have changed markedly and now range from the intuition and judgment of the engineer to rather complex mathematical models that require the use of high speed computers, the question is not whether or not to simulate, but rather which simulation tool to use. Paper illustrates some valid and invalid applications of the more complex simulation techniques in the context of some specific examples.
