Abstract

The NC servo press machine has a programmable function to fully control the position and velocity of the press slide. In this study, we experimentally examined the possibility of the burrfree blanking of an A5052 aluminum alloy sheet using the NC servo press machine. As a result, it was clarified that burr-free blanking, consisting of three steps, i.e., half blanking, push-back blanking, and blanking through, can be accomplished in one stroke using a common single-station die. However, the working parameters, such as punch penetration of each step, were limited in a narrow range. This can be solved by using a punch or die having round cutting edges. The experiments revealed that when using a punch or die having edge radius between 0.2 and 0.3 mm the range of optimum working parameters was remarkably expanded.
