Coexistência cultural e "gueras de religião"

Abstract

Under a multiplication of terrorist actions with religious inspiration and reaction to them in the context of a "war on terror", today's world looks engulfed in an endless series of religious wars, which confirm Huntington's theory on the "clash of civilizations". A closer analysis shows, however, that the most visible cases do not fit into the mold of a "clash of civilizations", nor of wars between religions, but rather as clashes among fanatics of every creed. In the present conditions of globalization, in which the different live together in unequal situations, reinforcement of cultures is a phenomenon that has led most countries to adopt "multiculturalism". On the international sphere, the equivalent to "multiculturalism", ideally devised to reduce cultural tensions and prevent terrorism, is the United Nations' initiative "Alliance of Civilizations".
