Propiedades psicométricas de una escala para medir percepción del empoderamiento comunitario en mujeres

Abstract

The main goal of this study was to develop and test the psychometric properties of a scale to measure the perception of community empowerment of women. The scale is a tool with 27 items. The sample was 130 women from 12 neighborhoods (comunas 9 and 10) from Cali, Colombia, who were randomly selected. Personal interviews were conducted to obtain the data. Content validity was assessed by a group of experts and with a group interview of four women. Exploratory Factor Analysis was used to assess construct validity. Data were best adjusted to four factors, indicating that perception of community empowerment is composed of four dimensions. The dimensions are: participation and influence, leadership, community interest and personal control. The results showed a reliable scale, the internal consistency of the items measured with the coefficient Cronbach alfa was 0.95. The readability of the scale was third grade of elementary school. Implications for future use of the total scale and of the subscales are presented. © 1999 Corporación Editora Médica del Valle.
