Abstract

The era of digitization increases the potential for using gadgets in toddlers. The negative impact is on the development of social communication. One of the most influential factors is the family, especially the interaction between mothers and toddlers. The purpose of this study was to see the relationship between the working status of mothers with the frequency and duration of gadget use in toddlers. The study used a cross sectional study design with purposive sampling in sampling. Inclusion criteria include mothers who have toddlers aged 1 to 5 years, having gadgets at home. Lives at home with her toddler, works full time (8-12 hours a day). Toddlers are physically healthy (not disabled) and do not experience growth and development disorders. Sample size 46. Data collection using a screening check list, questionnaires on the use of gadgets, growth and development examination instruments, hearing examinations and vision examinations. Data were analyzed using Fisher exact test with stata 14.2. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the working status of mothers and the frequency of using gadgets in toddlers (p-value: 0.01). There is a relationship between the working status of mothers with the duration of gadget use in children under five (p-value; 0.03). Mother's assistance is very necessary for toddlers in using gadgets so that working mothers can carry out strategies and manage time with toddlers.
