Abstract

The crystal structure of Na2Ti30 ~ has been determined, using single-crystal methods. The space group is P21/m, with the unit-cell dimensions a=8.571, b=3.804, c=9.135 _~, fl=101.57 °. The structure consists of layers of the composition (Ti30~) 2-. These are built up from blocks of six Tie 6 octahedra sharing edges, which are joined by having octahedral corners in common. The layers are held together by sodium ions which occur in two different kinds of crystallographic site. Introduction
