The geopolitical game of Morocco and Saudi Arabia in West Africa

Abstract

West Africa represents today a key place in contemporary Islam’s geopolitics. This situation is not new because historically West Africa have been Islamic and Muslims ruled over the identitary influence. Actually, the region is a prioritary strategic place for Western countries (USA and France) and their Muslims allies (Morocco and Saudi Arabia) and, also, insurgents and rebels related with neo-fundamentalist ideologies. The objective of this paper is shown, from a transdisciplinary perspective, the geopolitical game in West Africa and how affects the diverse contemporary schools of Islamic thought and the strategies that uses to try to have influence in contemporary in that area. For this purpose, we will analyze historical facts happened in Senegal, Mali, Nigeria and Mauritania.
