Abstract

A cytotoxic compound  have been isolated from bark of Garcinia griffithii T. Anders. (Guttiferae) which also known as kandis by local people in West Sumatra. Isolation works was performed by casual chromatography tecniques, and eqquiped with spectral data to establish the molecular structure.  The isolated compound comes out as yellow crystalline with melting point 238 – 239 oC, named 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone. The cytotoxic activity was determine by microculture tetrazolium assay (MTT) against human adenocarcinoma breast cancer cell line (MCF-7)  with IC50 value 8.45 mg/ml.
