Posterior Approach for Total Ankle Arthroplasty

Abstract

Total ankle arthroplasty is a technically challenging reconstruction, with soft tissue complications posing potential significant morbidity, especially when the anterior ankle soft tissue envelope is not pristine. Alternate approaches to the ankle for arthroplasty may need to be sought in unique cases. The author describes a posterior surgical approach for total ankle arthroplasty. © 2013 American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
