Abstract

In the past, pregnancy was considered a disease: in those cases in which the economy family allowed it, the woman was confined to an almost absolute rest. Now, with existing control techniques, performing exercise during pregnancy is not only contraindicated, it is recommended. The specific objective of physical activity in pregnant women is the conditioning of the body in its physical and emotional aspects in order to contribute to the pregnancy being experienced in a positive way and to facilitate a normal delivery and puerperium. The practice of physical activity is recommended to most pregnant women. It is essential during pregnancy, because it brings benefits for both, the fetus and the woman: it controls its weight, improves its physical conditioning and acts positively on the state of mind, psychological and social. The exercises should be smooth and safe, without requiring much more effort than most everyday activities. They have to practice little but frequently, respecting the corporal messages of fatigue or pain and medical contraindications, if they exist. It is essential to consult with the doctor or midwife if the type of exercise you want to perform is recommended according to the physical condition and conditions of pregnancy. If you did not exercise before you were pregnant, now is the time to start practicing simple and regular exercises. First, determine what level you are at and decide what exercises to do. It is best to start with a few short sessions, to increase their frequency and duratio.
