Abstract

Over the last 20 years, much change has occurred in the treatment strategy of fractures of the growing bone. The operative treatment of displaced joint fractures is a valid recommended procedure. The operative treatment of shaft fractures of long bones is also considered more often due to the introduction of elastic intramedullary nailing. Conservative treatment of shaft fractures of the arm is still the first choice as long there is no need for more than one reduction. If with a single reduction no stable situation is achievable, especially in fractures of the forearm, operative treatment is recommended. © Springer-Verlag 2012.
