Abstract

Following h. Freudenthal, E. Fischbein and many other mathematics educators, we consider the main way to improve the teaching of mathematics lies in changing teach-er's educational styles to develop pupils' creativity and intellectual autonomy. In our interpretation, this means using scheme-oriented education based on the theory of generic models we describe. On the basis of these ideas, a tool for the analysis of teachers' teaching style is developed. The tool and its application are described in Jirotková's article in this issue.
