Abstract

Learning objectives: 1. List the different goals of care at the end of life and how they interrelate and change. 2. Be able to use the 7-step protocol to negotiate goals of care. 3. Be able to communicate prognosis and its uncertainty. 4. Know how to tell the truth and identify reasonable hope. 5. Be able to use language effectively. 6. Be able to set limits on unreasonable goals. 7. Be able to adjust care and communication according to culture. 8. Identify goals when patients lack capacity.
