Research Assessment in the Humanities

Abstract

Aunque el texto en cuestión se comenzó a escribir dentro del marco de la conferencia ‘Research Quality in theHumanities:Towards Criteria and Procedures for Evaluating Research’ en 2010, resultó ser el crisol donde convergieron los resultados de múltiples colaboradores de distintos países pero con inquietudes comunes, hablamos de un cúmulo de 18 estudios bien fundamentados y ordenados secuencialmente, elaborados por 28 académicos reconocidos internacionalmente originarios de 13 naciones preponderantemente europeas. El documento ubica a las ciencias sociales y humanidades en tiempo y espacio presentes, sin importar que el texto casi llega a los 15 años que se comenzó a escribir, se tiene noticia de que los autores siguen trabajando en el mismo proyecto, sobre la misma línea temática por lo que aunque hay avances, la situación prevalece; en las áreas citadas persiste la resistencia a las estimaciones derivadas de los indicadores basados en el número de citaciones conseguidas, y es en este esquema que se advierte sobre una presión incremental sobre dichos campos disciplinares para adecuarse a un marco evaluativo de naturaleza cuantitativa utilizado en las ciencias naturales, ingenieriles y de la salud, no obstante, sus diferencias inherentes.Although the text in question began to be written within the framework of the conference ‘Research Quality in the Humanities: Towards Criteria and Procedures for Evaluating Research’ in 2010, it turned out to be the crucible where the results of multiple collaborators from different countries converged, yet with common concerns. We are talking about a collection of 18 well-founded studies, sequentially organized, produced by 28 internationally recognized scholars from 13 predominantly European nations. The document situates the social sciences and humanities in the present time and space, even though the text was started nearly 15 years ago. It is known that the authors are still working on the same project, following the same thematic line, so while there has been progress, the situation remains largely the same. In the cited areas, there is persistent resistance to assessments derived from citation-based indicators, and it is within this context that increasing pressure is noted on these fields to adapt to an evaluative framework of a quantitative nature used in the natural sciences, engineering, and health sciences, despite their inherent differences.
