A sol-gel process was used to prep. a ceramer, which is a hybrid material incorporating polymeric/oligomeric components of di-Me siloxane with Si glass. The basic reaction scheme was hydrolysis of Si(OEt)4 [78-10-4] to Si(OH)4 and polycondensation of the Si(OH)4 with di-Me siloxane. All of the samples made were transparent and flexible. Dynamic mech. studies indicated that a portion of the siloxane species was phase-sepd. while the remainder was well-dispersed. The effect of acid content was significant on the dispersion of the siloxane components and on the structure and properties of the final products. [on SciFinder(R)]
