Abstract

This chapter considers Sleeping With the Enemy’s post-aware and postfeminist perspectives as shaped by the conventions of the Gothic romance, the suspense thriller, and the horror film. The chapter critiques the film’s eroticization of violence, dismissal of resources for abused women, stereotypically monstrous abuser, and heroic victim empowerment.
