PENGARUH PENDAMPINGAN KADER KESEHATAN TERHADAP KEBERHASILAN MENYUSUI UNTUK MEMBERIKAN ASI EKSKLUSIF

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding plays an important role because it can protect from various infectious diseases in maintaining the body's immune balance. Various research reports stated that in addition to provide benefits to mothers and babies. Appropriate sources of information about exclusive breastfeeding by health workers should be provided as early as possible to support mothers in exclusive breastfeeding. Professional and personal support had an effect on the successful implementation of exclusive breastfeeding. One of the professional supports can be provided by Health cadres. Aim: This study aims to find out the effect of mentoring health cadres on the breastfeeding success to provide exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design and multiple time series design. The study population was all postpartum mothers with a total sample of 90. The sample was taken using quota sampling technique. This research was conducted in Kesugihan, Cilacap. The measurement of the breastfeeding success for exclusive breastfeeding was carried out using observation sheets and observations by health cadres. Data analysis used statistical test of independent samples t test and Chi-square Results: the results showed that breastfeeding mothers who did not receive mentoring from health cadres mostly (55.5%) did not success in exclusively breastfeeding. Meanwhile, 30 people (66.7%) who were mentored by health cadres succeed to breastfeed and provided exclusive breastfeeding during the mentoring. There was a significant effect of mentoring health cadres on breastfeeding mothers on the breastfeeding success (p=0.037). Conclusion: There was a significant effect of mentoring health cadres on the breastfeeding success to provide exclusive breastfeeding.
