Abstract

Emission quantum yields and lifetimes of the [Ru(bpy)3]2+ ion were measured in various solvents at 25 °C. Nonradiative rate constants (knr) were calculated from these data. A plot of knr  vs. the Gutmann’s acceptor number was found to be linear. This result can be explained in terms of the contributions of charge transfer to solvent (CTTS).
