Partnerships for transformation, making connections beyond the classroom (SDG 17)

Abstract

A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society at local, national, regional and global levels. The world today is more interconnected than ever before. Global pandemics such as Covid-19, require global solutions. SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development. Inclusive partnerships built upon a shared vision and shared goals that place people and the planet at the centre, are needed at global, regional, national and local levels. This chapter discusses the importance of teaching about, for and through SDG 17; it highlights the example of Fairtrade as a model of partnership adopted by one primary school in Dublin; it illustrates models of partnership exercised by some schools and it concludes with a call for all teachers to teach the SDGs.
