Abstract
This article is intended to work, from the perspective of the "anthropology of place," stress processes that occur in academic, empirical and policy between "discrete spaces" (the? "Anthropological place"?) and "non-places " - a term coined by Augé (1993). On the assumption about the constant redefinition of the places connected to processes of dispute through space, we discuss the binary logic that has been crystallized as intrinsic aspect deepening processes of globalization. Focusing on retrained public spaces of contemporary cities, we analyze the construction of places from the political consensus and hegemonic management of government, sometimes in collusion with the market, arriving at the conclusion that these places are negotiated and/ or played from various and unequal social actors involved with those who struggle for social recognition and appropriation of those places. This text brings together results from different ethnographic fieldwork conducted in neighborhoods in the city of Buenos Aires: La Boca, San Telmo (historic center) and in public spaces such as the Avenida de Mayo (next to the Plaza de Mayo) where they develop local government programs as "Buenos Aires Celebrate".
