Abstract

Synonyms Dipole-dipole interactions; Dispersion forces; Electromagnetic interactions and adhesion; Surface energy and adhesion; Surface tension and adhesion; Van der Waals interactions Definition Adhesion science is the study of the mutual interaction of material bodies at their impinging surfaces or shared interfaces, and also the exploration of the consequences of said interactions on the thermal-mechanical stability and physical behavior of coatings, laminate structures, and other adhering bodies. Scientific Fundamentals The problem of the adhesion of materials in nature has the curious property of being both a sticky subject and at the same time a slippery one, too. The sticky aspects are readily apparent in the many common phenomena we observe in everyday life such as the behavior of glues, tapes, and the sliding friction behavior of nearly every macroscopic object. The slippery aspect of adhesion Q.
