Green Compounds to Attenuate Aluminum Corrosion in HCl Activation: A Necessity Review

Abstract

Abstract: Control of Al corrosion is of environmental, aesthetic, economical and technical importance. Ecologically acceptable, environment friendly and readily available corrosion inhibitors are the best option for the protection of Al against corrosion. In recent years, natural products (plant extract species) show the authentic promise towards inhibition of Al corrosion with zero environmental impact. Hence, herein, we have tried a review on of corrosion inhibition property of plant products on Al in HCl medium. The present article deliberately restricts mainly to the plant extracts as non-toxic corrosion inhibitors. The present review summarizes the published research work on the use of plant extracts as green corrosion inhibitors for Al in the HCl solution. Herein, the sample preparation, extraction and techniques employed to examine the inhibition effect of plant species and respective mechanisms of inhibition are discussed. Further, in the present article, missing gap, direction of research and future considerations were also proposed. Graphic Abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
